I found my studies this week to be very practical and helpful. Do you ever wish you hadn’t said something? Wish you could take back some words? Lost your cool and spoke your mind without using your mind? I have! Listen to the words of Christ: Matthew 12:36, 37 36 “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give an account of it in the Day of Judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words, you will be condemned.” I will account for every idle word, yikes. The word idle means careless or unfruitful. Now if you think about it, we send billions of emails, text, letters, Facebook posts, phone calls – and that does not include the words we speak. I believe I speak more words than most, no amen necessary! The words of James certainly hit home when it comes to speech. James 3:9-11 says, “9 with the tongue, we praise our Lord and Father, and with it, we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?” My brothers and sisters may this challenge us to use our words carefully. Whether we are on the phone, on Facebook, texting, or talking, may God grant to us discernment. May we also confess our sin to the Lord when we fail so that we can partake in His wonderful forgiveness. Have a great day!
