Humble Beginnings

August 17, 1972|

On August 17, 1972, our church began as a prayer group under a huge oak tree at a private home in Pelham, North Carolina.  The first service was held just one week later with a congregation of 56 adults and children present.  The place of worship was a two-car garage on Mayfield Road.  There was no pastor, no auditorium, or adequate finances—but we had great faith in the Lord and a willingness to do His will.

Pastor Bill Adams

On August 28, 1972, officers and deacons were elected and Bill Adams consented to serve as pastor without pay until a pastor could be called.  We continued to meet in this garage for several more weeks.  Our meeting facilities consisted of lawn chairs, a portable organ for music and a table for a pulpit.  Briefly services were held on Ingram Road.

The property on 135 Winstead Drive was purchased in March 1973 and the construction of the church, later used as a fellowship hall, began in April, 1974.  It was finished at a total cost of $64,000.  The building was paid for in full on April 4, 1977.  Bill Adams served as pastor for ten years before resigning in 1982.

Construction Starts on Our Current Facility

March 1, 2006|

With one heart, one mind, and a spirit of excitement, we prayed daily for the Lord’s guidance during the construction of our new facility at 7450 Martinsville Highway, Danville, Virginia.  We gave glory to God for so graciously blessing our church and making such endeavors possible. In March of 2006, Faith Memorial Baptist Church began construction on a three million dollar facility containing over 25,000 square feet.

The Growth Continues

June 1, 2007|

Construction was completed in June 2007 and the first worship service was held at the end of June.  God has blessed our new church with many new members as well as numerous visitors that join us to worship and praise our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.   We are blessed in so many ways! God has blessed us with a kindred spirit, precious fellowship and a love for one another and for the Lord.  As our church family continues to grow, we give all glory and honor to the Lord for blessing this ministry in such a mighty way!
